Santo Domingo is a history and culture full city, as it is the first city founded in America. Here you can visit the first cathedral built in the New World, as well as the Alcazar of the first governor of the Island Don Diego Colon), the Three Eyes Indigenous Millenarian Cave, among many other history monuments. This old colonial city has been home of various films and documental, made by historians from all over the world. It is your chance to discover it by yourself. A typical Dominican lunch will be included during it. It is mandatory to wear long pans or skirts, and sleeved shirts to enter the cathedral.

First off, I should clarify that we did not book a tour. We simply hired the company to drive us to the colonial zone in Santo Domingo and bring us back at the end of the day. This company offers group tours, but that isn’t really our thing so we hired them to drive us there and back in a private van.
Despite this, our driver Oscar was simply incredible. He patiently answered all of our questions along the way, he took us to a stop for some authentic Dominican breakfast, and even offered to be flexible on our itinerary throughout the day. The only place we couldn’t walk to from our drop off point was the Three Eyes National Monument. He offered to take us on the way back which we gladly accepted.
He told us about some local specialty snack/juice and then when we were unable to find it, was willing to go out of his way to look for it on the way back.
Additionally, Oscar was very attentive to our safety.
Couldn’t have asked for more on what was supposed to be a simple pick-up/drop-off.
The private van with four passengers cost $315 round trip which we found very reasonable given the distance.
