Tanjung Bulat Jungle Camp is far unique from other lodges in kinabatangan is because this jungle camp is totally own and operated by the local people come from the river people tribe. Coming to TBJC means supporting the local community product as well. Beside that TBJC also situated in a very isolated place in Kinabatangan river compare to other lodges, for example, if you go to the other part of kinabatanga river lodges, 1 monkey will be 10-15 boat watching, but in TBJC, 1 monkey only 1 boat, which is US. We also implement NO MASS TOURIST policy in our jungle camp, which means, in a moment we only allowed 10 traveler maximum to come to our simple and basic jungle camp yet special. This is because we want to give such an authentic privilege for our clients. We also, implement our conservation project called rainforest carbon offset project (tree planting), some of your money we get, we will invest it back to environment by buying tropical seedlings from the local community.

We had a great time, well organized, pick up from Sepilok and brought back to Sandakan. We spend 2 nights and saw the wildlife also in and very close to the camp. Great tour guide, great staff, great trip!

Unfortunately I don’t think the experience is worth it the time and the money you spent for.

They have a very little circle trail in the camp in where is unlikely you will find anything. The river is beautiful but there is no much on it to see.

There were 2 (1h) activities per day, a cruise and a walk. With 6h free time between them. Notice you cannot do anything in the camp. There are just hammocks and nothing to do. There is no internet either. So that 6h free time would be very long and boring.

I don’t think is worth it to spend more than 1 night here in the best case.

Additionally. The money I paid for was for a premium room (not shared) but they still made me

Amazing wildlife experience in the middle of the jungle. We got to see lots of crocodiles, monkeys and some orang utans! The main tour guide was very nice and knew a lot about the environment. We staff wasn’t very interactive which surprised us a little. We missed nets in the room as protection during, if you have, bring your own. And don’t forget repellent. There’s no mobile service, so book anything else beforehand.

Basically, I agree with the very positive reviews of other participants: the location of the lodge is fantastic, although not on the river, but on a side arm, i.e. a lake!, located off the beaten track and far from the tourist hustle and bustle, otherwise everything is very basic but clean, the food is excellent, Jay, our guide, is very competent and committed... but...
I had chosen the 3D/2N tour, hoping to spend a lot of time in the jungle, hoping to see Orangutans in the wild and also elephants that come to the river during the current dry season.
Instead, the tour turned out to be a 1D2N tour:
Pick up at midday from Sepilok, then a 1-hour lunch break and time for shopping, arrival at the lodge - chill until dinner, night walk. 2nd day, early morning cruise, breakfast, then 8 hours of time to kill until the evening cruise, this time on the river. No activities during the day, OK, walking tour of the jungle on your own is possible. On the 3rd day, checkout 8:15. that was it. Overall a disappointing program. The same activities for 2D/1N. OK for jungle beginners, but if you want to see orangutans, elephants etc. and not just hang out in the jungle, you shouldn't book this tour.

What an amazing trip! An Orangutan swung through the trees straight over our camp. Saw 4/5 of the Borneo Big 5, incredible experience and unforgettable memories!
Cannot recommend this enough. Jay our guide was great along with everyone else working there.

The Camp was in a very quiet Peace with no nearby camps or resort. Staff was friendly and helpful. We could spot Orangutans thrice once on the river side and twice on the backyard of camp. We could also spot many bird species of Borneo in the night cruise. proboscis monkeys were spotted higher in the trees. Some monitor lizards and alligators were spotted riverside as well,
Food in the camp was decent and so are amenities as expected in the camp.
Bonus was the star gazing in the pitch-dark sky. Day time is Very Humid and uncomfortable in the room, No fans. We can sit in the verandah and can manage with the sea breeze. Cool down at night.

Amazing! Very well organised, was sent a guide of what was to come before our arrival, always kept informed of what’s to come each day and all around a brilliant few days. Jai was our guide and he was so knowledgable and not bothered about answering any of our questions regarding the wildlife, nothing was any trouble for any of the team. Accommodation was better than expected and the food was the best I’ve had in Malaysia and we never went hungry! We seen all kinds of wildlife include 4 of the Borneo big 5 (no pigmy elephants) and it was all great! We even seen orangutan's in camp the morning we were leaving! Highly recommended, we thoroughly enjoyed our time and would go back in a heart beat, gutted to leave and already missing the jungle life

We had a really nice experience on this tour. Three days and two nights where we got to learn a lot from our educated guide. We saw proboscis monkeys, crocodiles, hornbills and an orangutan that spent the night near the camp. We were thus lucky and got to see four of the five "small big five". Only the pygmy elephant was missing. In addition, we saw spiders, frogs, macaques, langurs, herons, eagles, kingfishers etc. Cozy to get out into the rainforest without having to crowd with others. Highly recommended! Don't forget a towel!
