There are as many metaphors to describe what locals call 'down in the Buckskin' as there are people who have been there. I choose the word 'in' because you are literally inside the walls of the world's longest slot canyon.

According to the Bureau of Land Management ('BLM') website, Buckskin Gulch is 16 miles long (around 26 km) from the Buckskin Trailhead to the Paria Canyon and over 500 feet (around 150m) deep at its confluence with the Paria River. There are places in the Buckskin where you are able to touch both canyon walls at the same time.

Buckskin Gulch is a photographer's and hiker's Mecca. Every corner you turn is changing continuously; the cliffs are water-and-wind-sculpted patterns of colors, light and shadows. You may also marvel and puzzle at the meanings of the rock writings (petroglyphs) from the early Archaic period (some are as old as 9,000 years).

It was voted one the top 10 hikes in the world by National Geographic Adventure Magazine a few years back.

Great slot canyon! Interesting geology. Jeff was our guide and he was outstanding! He was very helpful with our group of seniors! (only one ladder) Because he grew up in this area he was very knowledgeable about history, geology, botany....... Great company Yermo has: Seeking Treasure Adventures. I will recommend our tours to friends for sure. Can't wait to show my photos of both trips with friends and family.

Our private tour with Angie was awesome. She was super knowledgeable about the plants, geology, and the history of the region. We had our dog along and she definitely made us all comfortable and safe.
I was really appreciative of all of her efforts.

We had booties for our dog but did not end up using them--it wasn't as hot as we thought it would be.

She also gave us tips and shared knowledge on our next stop in the journey--Zion National Park.

We were a bit disappointed when our guide Brand advised against hiking through Buckskin Gulch as we had originally scheduled, due to its then current ankle-deep mud. But we loved our consolation prize, as we visited a series of astonishing and seldom-visited landscapes across Vermillion Cliffs National Monument, Marble Canyon and Lake Powell, along with lunch (which we provided) at the Dinosaur Museum in Big Water. We got some of the best photos of our entire vacation during this tour. Brand knows the area’s majestic terrain like the back of his hand, and he drives across its rugged back roads as effortlessly as you or I would drive through our own neighborhoods. We enjoyed hearing his informed explanations of the local geology as well some hilarious accounts of his recent tours. We would gladly ramble with Brand again. Highly recommended! (and be sure to ask him about The Wave).

the entire experience was amazing from the moment we were picked up and driven to the trailhead. Perfect. The hike itself was very tough as we took the Middle Route to descend which entails climbing down the sheer rockface! On the way the guide BRAND, was excellent! he pointed out the vegetation uniqueness, some Indian pottery and flint peices that were in the ground, helped with pictures and generally looked after our safety!!

My girls and I booked this trip back in January but due to a flash flood the night before our trip, buckskin and wire pass were closed. Our guide, Brand, asked us if we wanted to go the middle route instead. We said yes, not knowing it was a class 3 & 4 hike. It was incredible. Brand talked to us about all the history and showed us petroglyphs along the way. We had to go down a very steep descent into the gulch and being afraid of heights, I was terrified. Brand was so patient and helped me navigate down and back up. The gulch had water in it due to the flash flood but that made it even more incredible. Brand was a fantastic guide and I would request him again and recommend him to anyone needing a guide.

Brand was an awesome guide! He was patient, knowledgeable, and pointed out many interesting things along the way. The descent was scary, but you will have a real sense of accomplishment afterward. It was so nice to enjoy the beauty of the gulch with no crowds. We only saw one group passing through the entire time.

This was a highlight of an amazing 10 day Utah/Arizona adventure! We took off nice and early and were the only people in the canyon for the first few hours. Our guide Angie was very knowledgeable and attentive to our needs. She let us set the pace and made sure we saw some incredible sections of slot canyon, but was respectful of our desire to keep the hike under ten miles.

Angie was such an outstanding guide that we hired her again two days later for South Coyote Buttes.

Our tour guide Yermo was very knowledgeable, kids enjoyed learning about different plants, rocks and we even saw fossils! The experience was exhilarating, we enjoyed our tour of Buckskin Gulch very much. Yermo led us through the ancient Indian path into the canyon with ease. I would recommend anyone thinking of exploring buckskin to definitely do it with Yermo.

What an amazing experience! We wanted an adventure with our 16 and 11 year olds that would also be safe. This was it! Yermo was beyond everything we could have hoped for! We instantly became friends and kept us engaged and safe. I can’t wait to come back and do another adventure! Highly recommend!

First of all, the place is gorgeous. Also first of all, the guide, whose name is Angie, is excellent; the fact that she knows not just where to go, but what to look for and what it means, made the gulch even more beautiful. She understands the importance of safety as much as she understands the importance of fun. But I tell you, this place is breathtaking. Also, it’s a little cooler than some other places, because of the canyon formation. So glad I went!
