2. Ancient City of Ephesus
After greeting, we will have a 2-minute drive to the Ephesus area to visit one of the main highlights in Turkey. Ephesus, one of the 12 cities of Ionian League (an ancient Greek district on the western coast of Asia Minor) is located near Izmir. As a port city it was a major departure point for trade routes into Asia Minor. Walk through history along marble streets lined with wonderful public buildings. Among them are the Baths of Scholastica and the Library of Celsus (it was built in the beginning of the 2nd century A.D. by Gaius Julius Aquila to be a memorial to his father Gaius Julius Celsus Polemanus, the proconsul of Province of Asia). The Temple of Hadrian and The Grand Theater are two of the most impressive buildings in Ephesus. The Grand theatre was built in the 3rd century B.C and it was later expanded to 24.000 spectators by the Romans in the 1st century A.D.
3. Meryemana (The Virgin Mary's House)
Our next stop is The House of Virgin Mary, located in the Aladag Mountains 5 miles away from Ephesus. At the third Ecumenical Council in 431 AD in Ephesus, it was claimed that Mary came to Ephesus with St. John in 37 A.D. and lived there until her death in 48 A.D. After the discovery of the house, the Archbishop of Izmir declared it as a place of pilgrimage in 1892. On July 26, 1967, Pope Paul VI visited this place and prayed there.

Lunch time: we will have a delicious Turkish kebap and mezes with salad with soft drinks included.
5. Sirince
Next drive up to the pretty old Turkish-Orthodox village Sirince, located on the top of a mountain, where anyone will enjoy the impressive vineyards and peach trees. The village has a synthesis of Turk-Greek culture, where we visit a mosque and an Orthodox church. All the narrow streets of the village belong to the women, selling handcrafts of all kinds and olive oil. Another attraction of Sirince is its fruity wine. You can taste it in small cafes.
6. The Temple of Artemis
We will stop at the Temple of Artemis where one of the seven wonders of the ancient world used to be.
7. Kusadasi
After the tour we will take you back to the Kusadasi city center or port.

My husband and I were so impressed with our tour. We felt so spoiled with this private tour. Selda was so informative and very proud of her country. Selda kept communicating with associates at the different sites to check lines and crowds. I highly recommend this tour, all the sites we wanted to see and the bonus was it was private. We had a wonderful driver as well. The price was very reasonable. Don't hesitate to book with this company!

We had a wonderful tour of Ephesus and the House of the Virgin Mary with Selda.
She met us at the cruise port in Kusadasi as we got off our ship. She gave us a wonderful tour. It was so nice to be picked up in a Mercedes van as opposed to taking a shore excursion in a large bus. This is the third time we have used Curio Travel and we highly recommend taking them if you want a private tour.

We toured the Virgin Mary’s house, old city of Ephesus and our guide Seda was amazing! She was very knowledgeable and explained things so well. We also toured a turkish rug business. saw how the rugs are made and it was so interesting. the rugs were beautiful. the excursion was beyond what we could have expected and Seda was a big part of that! thanks Seda!
