Being surrounded by the forest of giant Chilean palms was very peaceful. The trek to the waterfall presented beautiful scenery and tranquility listening to the various birds singing . Our guide Joaquin was knowledgeable of the biodiversity of the area and educated us on the preservation of the national jewels in Chile. He was very organized and the entire trip was well coordinated. Having the prepared lunch in front of the waterfall was very special.

There were a lot of highlights of this hike. The views were very pretty. I thought the palms were really neat, the waterfall was impressive, and the hiking near it was nice and forest-like. Joaquin pointed out lots of wildlife along the trail. The food that he made was delicious, both the lunch to enjoy at the top of the hike and the wine and snacks to relax with afterward. My husband even found one of the small coconuts from the palms intact that Joaquin opened for us to enjoy!

While the hike was not too long or steep, it was really tough in the extreme heat. Of course the weather can't be controlled, but I did know that since we are so far from home we weren't experts in the local regions where we were going, which is why I booked expert guides. I had expected that they'd inform me of what to prepare for (as another guide company did, by sending a link to a local weather forecast for the hike location and a list of what to wear/bring). The tickets that arrived the night before, through Viator, said to bring "warm clothes (wind jacket and fleece)" so we dressed appropriately for colder weather. We were able to take off most layers but were still in long jeans and not at all comfortable in the temperature in the 90s F. It made the hike quite a slog and much less enjoyable than it would have been. I don't really even think it makes sense to do that hike at all in that temperature. Other hikes that we did the same week (Thanksgiving week) were not nearly as hot, maybe due to the microclimate or just weather variability. I did also hope for a little more insider expert information about the ecology and conservation projects which is why I picked this guided hike, but hearing about the palm trees (how they grow, what eats their nuts, their ages) and their conservation status (where else they exist, how many there are in the region) from the guide and him finding the wildlife along the hike was pretty cool. Joaquin also took photos for us with his nice camera which was really nice. Overall, it would probably be a great hike but make sure to find out in advance what to expect from the weather.

My spouse and I enjoyed this fairly easy hike to a waterfall. We were the only two people who booked the excursion on the day we went, so we had our own personal guide, Joaquin. Joaquin was very knowledgeable, pointing out unique plant and animal species as we walked. We stopped for lunch at the waterfall, and Joaquin had made certain to prepare a special lunch for my spouse, who is allergic to gluten. The national park is beautiful, but the lack of funding to maintain the access road was evident. Be prepared for a bit of adventure as you bounce along the final stretch of road in the park. This is a great trip for a one-day nature getaway from Santiago.
