From the moment we were picked up at our hotel, we felt like we were part of a team. Every guide we interacted with from Coyote Aventuras has been incredibly welcoming and friendly.

Paola and Diego took us on this day trip to Hierve el Agua. Because Coyote Aventuras has an early morning pickup, you will spend a good amount of time at the springs in solitude! This place is an absolute must see for anyone who geeks out on geology/hydrology. The best part was the hike from Hierve el Agua to Las Salinas. This route takes you through stunning countryside to a swimming hole within a box canyon, which is very refreshing after hiking in the hot sun!

After the swim, we headed to Jeronimo's Palenque for a delicious meal and a very thorough mezcal tasting. Jeronimo and his wife will make you feel at home. An incredible experience!

This was an amazing experience and adventure. Our guide was exceptionally intuitive and knowledgeable in basically everything - the amazing mineral springs and the surrounding birds, plants, and animals , the local ecology, the political and cultural issues of the state of Oaxaca, etc, etc. She was truly a treasure and her sensitivity and insights made this trip exceptional.

The day was perfect organized: Diego and Louis were already waiting for us, so they were more then in time:). Hiking was perfect with enough breaks and wonderful views. Also the Mexcal factory , the people there and the food were amazing. Thanks a lot!!!

After doing a lot of research into day trips outside of Oaxaca City, my partner and I signed up for this one with Coyote Aventuras (given their social and ecological consciousness and commitment to sustainable, meaningful tourism), and we're so glad we did.

Marlene was our guide, and we happened to be the only people on the tour, which was very special (although uncommon, I'd imagine, given the popularity of their offerings).

There is so much to say, but I'll try to keep it brief. Essentially, each component of the day was thoughtful, and enriched with deep knowledge of the place, the ecosystem, the region, the plants, the products, the food, the people, the history, etc. Marlene was amazing, so knowledgeable about all of the above, and enthusiastic to answer my never-ending questions.

Breakfast with the local family in the village outside Hierve el Agua was delicious, generous, and the perfect way to begin the day.

The hike around Hierve el Agua was sublime, and we were lucky to be the only ones there at that time.

We cooled off from the hike in the pools for a while, and awed at the breathtaking landscape.

Next, we hiked up and down the hills across the valley and through mixed ecosystems to the local waterfall/canyon, which blew us away. A true jewel of a place, that I hope remains intact and unexploited by tourism.

Afterwards, we went to the small third-generation family mezcal farm/distillery, and Jeronimo generously shared his nuanced, beautiful mezcals with us, along with his knowledge of tasting, production, and so much more. It is clear that Coyote establishes close connections with everyone they work with, and that these are true friendships, and help support the communities in meaningful ways.

We enjoyed a delicious lunch afterwards, made by his wife, that was well-earned after all of the hiking (and mezcal!).

A truly special experience that we will never forget. If you're hesitating on whether to sign up, or questioning the cost, it is worth every dollar and more.

Gracias, Coyote Aventuras.

Incredible visit to the calcified waterfall and hike in the surrounding mountains. Long day, but food, nature, and our guide Shy made for a 5 star experience. Cannot imagine what this experience would have been like without her. 10/10 recommend to anyone visiting and staying in Oaxaca city.

Hierve el Agua is a magical place worthy of taking extra time to explore the area. Melanie was an excellent tour guide as well as Paula her assistant. On this tour you will be lead on a beautiful hike with fantastic views and waterfalls the majority of tourists will never see. If you have the time, this tour should not be missed. Leaving early at 6 am got us there before the crowds and the heat. We loved the breakfast stop. Melanie provided extra touches like homemade trail-mix, plenty of water, beer at the end of our hike and at the end of tour, “wish boxes”. Despite already have been on 1 mezcal tour, the stop at a mezcal farm was definitely worth it. Unique in that we talked to the “mezcal maker” and owner himself and had a wonderful meal i his home with his family. The conversation went beyond mezcal, to history and culture. I spent 5 weeks in Oaxaca City and this tour was definitely the high point, Thank you Melanie. Christine and Danny from California

it's a well organised day trip. Breakfast is excelent. You have time to swim early in the morning. The walking tour is very beautiful. For me and our family it was an easy hiking tour, but I recommend hiking shoes! It's worth it, and I would do it again!

Overall, it was a good experience. The time at the actual Hierve el Agua felt rushed, with us only getting about 20 minutes to enjoy the pools (we left there around 9:30, way ahead of what was scheduled, which we did not realize until later). While the special waterfall was nice, the top portion is much more iconic and more time was needed. Some of the time on the schedule also gets optimized by getting down to the area, too. The mezcal distillery was unnecessary and should be removed from the itinerary-- prices were high, and the food was truly mediocre at best. More time at Hierve, please!

This was an incredible trip. From pick up to drop off everything was great. Pick up location was easy to find, and was on time. Water was provided, and the food stop for breakfast was a lovely local location. The trip itself was stunning, and our guide was very knowledgeable, helpful, and encouraging during the hike. Although it is a little more expensive than other tour companies, it is so worth the price! You get an authentic experience and do not visit the common "tourist traps". 10000% recommend Coyote Aventuras!

Coyote Aventuras is AMAZING! We did the Hierva el Agua excursion and it was one of the best days of our trip. We learned so much about local history, culture and flora, swam in amazing natural pools, sampled great mezcal and ate delicious meals. We also did the urban art walking tour in Oaxaca city on another day which was fantastic. Both tours were led by Diego, who was an excellent guide!
