What does Tasmania have to offer

"Tassie" as the Aussies like to call it is the only island state of Australia, separated by Bass Strait some 240 kilometres to the south of the Australian continent. Tasmania is the 26th largest island in the world, and has a population of just over half a million. Almost half of Tasmania's population reside in the greater Hobart precinct, with Hobart being the capital. The other main cities in Tasmania are Launceston, Devonport, Burnie and Ulverstone.

Tasmania has a landmass of just over 68,00 square kilometres, and is 364 kilometres long from its northernmost to its southernmost points, and 306 kilometres from east to west. Tasmania is famously known as the natural state as almost 45% of Tasmania lies in reserves, national parks and World Heritage sites. No wonder the slogan for Tasmania is "A World Apart, Not A World Away".

Tasmania is the perfect holiday destination to indulge in beautiful food and wine. You can discover great produce at farmers markets right up to fine dining at high-end bars and restaurants. Tasmania, with its cool climate, produces high quality wine, namely pinot noir and sparkling wines. Take a leisurely drive around the state and visit cheese factories, raspberry farms and sample what Tasmania is all about.

Tasmania has amazing forests but also has beautiful beaches. Boat Harbour Beach, on the north west coast, is a hidden gem with super white sand and picturesque water. Other key attractions around the state include the Salamanca Markets in Hobart, Cradle Mountain, the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), Mount Wellington, Cataract Gorge, Port Arthur, Lake St Clair, Blow Hole and Tasman Arch, Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, and Freycinet National Park. Tasmania has no train services so hiring a car is definitely the best and easiest way to travel.
