The Northern Territory or NT, is one of only two Territories within Australia. The other being the Australian Capital Territory. The Northern Territory is located in the central northern region of Australia. It shares its borders with Queensland to the east, Western Australia to the west, South Australia to the south. In the northern parts it sprawls across the Gulf of Carpentaria, and the Timor and Arafura seas.
NT is the third largest division of land in Australia consuming well over 1.3 million square kilometres of land. However, the vast majority of the NT is uninhabited due to its dry arid landscape. There are only a little over 233,000 Top Ender's living in the Territory.
The Northern Territory was first inhabited by Australia's natives, the Aboriginals. Today it is a rich cultural heritage location within Australia, and is the true heart and soul of the country.
The NT is now a tourism mecca in Australia with attractions such as Uluru, Ayers Rock, Kakadu, Larapinta Trail, Arnhem Land, and Nitmiluk National Park. The capital city of the Northern Territory is Darwin. While there are no other cites as such in the region, other sizeable towns include Katherine, Tennant Creek, Alice Springs, Palmerston and Nhulunbuy.
