Kingston is a city in the US State of New York. After the battles of Saratoga in 1777, the city was burned by the British. Nearest airport is Stewart International Airport, which is 63 kilometres away from the city. The population stands at 180,998 according to the statistics of 2013. The City of Kingston is sited at the foot of the Catskill Mountains in the beautiful Hudson River Valley.
The city is famous for its historic churches. The Old Dutch Church is located in scenic Uptown Kingston. The church celebrated its 350th anniversary in 2009. Many of the city's churches are situated in Wurts Street. The Hudson Valley Wedding Chapel is a 150 year old, Tiffany windowed chapel. The German Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church which is also in the precinct was incorporated in 1842.
Forsyth Park is a man-made picnic spot where visitors can hand feed animals, and children can participate in educational events, and summer camps are held here. The park organizes and hosts the autumn festival. A small zoo is also located in the park, which homes llamas, pot bellied pigs, ducks and turtles. Adjacent to the zoo is a baseball field, a playground with swings, slides, and climbing play equipment.
The Hudson River Maritime Museum is the one and only museum in New York dedicated to conserving the maritime history of the river Hudson, and its tributaries, and the commercial establishments that are built around it. The collection includes vessel blueprints, photographs, wall paintings, prints, and important pieces of Hudson River vessels that have long since been retired. You can reach the historic 86 year old lighthouse, the Rondout Lighthouse by organised boat tours from the Museum.
On Saturdays during the summer you can visit the farmer's markets at the Uptown Historic District of the city. You can also visit the Volunteer Fireman's Hall and Museum. The Ulster Performing Arts Center which is located nearby, is a beautifully restored theatre.
